First Baptist Church

What We Believe

First Baptist Church in Leavenworth traces its roots to 1858. The church merged with another Baptist church in 1864 and was located in downtown Leavenworth until 1957 when it moved to its present location at 13th and Osage Streets.

  • The church is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches of the USA (formerly the Northern Baptist Convention). Our convention is comprised of approximately 6,000 churches with 1.2 million members. To find more information about American Baptist Churches of the USA click here
  • The church is also affiliated with the American Baptist Churches of the Central Region (formerly the Kansas Baptist Convention). To find more information about American Baptist Churches of the Central Region click here
  • The church is evangelical in nature. We believe in the historic, biblical Christian faith. We seek to be true to the Holy Scriptures in our faith and practice and to boldly proclaim the Good News of Salvation through Jesus Christ.
  • The church is cooperative in nature. We seek to cooperate with other Christian organizations in carrying out the Great Commission of our Lord to make disciples.

Redeemed and Reconciled

The mission of our Church is to glorify God by making disciples through the gospel of Jesus Christ. God’s mission and the mission of His Church are inseparably linked.

Empowered

Transformation

As Jesus Christ works in and through us to fulfill our mission and pursue our vision, we expect to see results in three areas: Community Transformation, New Church Formation, Next Generation Empowerment.

Missions

It is our aim to reach as many people as possible with the Gospel of our Lord. Our mission program begins at home and reaches around the world.  We endeavor to teach Christians how to share their faith in a non-threatening matter. We believe every Christian is a witness for Christ; therefore, we seek to be the very best possible.
